RAIN MAN TALKS KREWELLA & NEW MUSIC AT ELECTRIC ZOO 2016

Over Labor Day Weekend, Electric Zoo returned to New York City for the eighth time, which marked their highest overall attendance since 2013.
Electric Zoo: Wild Island drew in about 83,000 attendees, but had the highest success with 33,000 headliners on Sunday. SFX Entertainment Inc., the world’s largest producer of live events and entertainment content focused on electronic music, announced that they have successfully completed the three-day festival at Randall’s Island Park.
“We thank New York City and the electronic music community for another massively successful weekend on Randall’s Island,” said Adam Richman, SVP of Made Event-New York and Director of Electric Zoo at SFX Entertainment, Inc. “SFX is proud to be a part of this unbelievable atmosphere and looks forward to the challenge of topping this weekend when we return for another festival next year.”
“This was an incredibly important time for all of us as we re-imagined Electric Zoo to give the community an immersive experience,” said Michael Julian, Director of Marketing at Made Event/SFX Entertainment, Inc.  “This festival represents the best of any electronic music event globally, while keeping our hearts rooted in New York dance floors. We met a big milestone this year and look forward to working ever harder to exceed expectations for next year.”
This year, they created a unique “Wild Island” theme featuring a variety of animals wandering the island from zebras, lions, tigers, monkeys, and a giant giraffe that can easily catch your eye.
The festival included over 100 of the world’s biggest artists who performed across four different animal-themed stages such as a cobra for the main stage and an octopus for one of the other popular stages. Festival goers packed the island to watch some of their favorite headliners perform such as TiĆ«sto, Hardwell, The Chainsmokers, Cash Cash, Steve Aoki, Bassnectar, Blasterjaxx, Porter Robinson, Zomboy, Carnage, Borgore, NGHTMRE and many, many more.
“We pride ourselves in creating one of a kind magical moments for our fans that will impact their life in any positive way. They are our inspiration, we do it all for them,” said Sebastian Solano, CEO ID&T North America. “Once more we have shown the dance music world that Electric Zoo is the flagship music festival of New York City.”
I also had the pleasure of catching up with Kris Trindl, AKA Rain Man, during EZoo to talk about signing with Dim Mak, his experience as a solo artists and new music.
This is ur first time playing EZoo?
“No I played here 3 years ago with Krewella, but this is my first time here as a solo artist. It’s great to be back!”
How do you find it different from when you were performing with Krewella to now as a solo artist?
“It definitely gives me the freedom to be creative and independent. I’ve grown up a lot over the past two years and I have a new outlook. I guess I would say I’m more professional and more adult, more responsible. Before people questioned, ‘Oh, did Rain Man even make the beats?’ and I was like ‘Alright, I’m going back to being a DJ.’ Now I allow my music to speak for itself.”
I know you signed with Dim Mak, now this weekend is a big weekend for you, your celebrating DIM MAK’s 20th anniversary at EZoo, any other plans for celebrating?
“I love being a part of the Dim Mak family, there’s so many different genres being represented. It’s an exciting year for us, 2016 marks our 20th anniversary. We’re going to Vegas to perform a few shows. I’m flying out early tomorrow morning to Vegas to do a few shows as well.”
You even released your first single with DIM MAK, “Bring Back The Summer,” What is your inspiration behind the song?
“The song came together in like one night. The vocalist had the lyrics, she had the beat and we put it together in one day. It’s a cross-over pop electronic genre. She wrote me the vocals and I turned it into ‘Bring Back The Summer’ in one night.”
Is the pop-electronic sound something you want to stick with or continue drum & bass because I know before starting in 2012 that was a lot of the music you were producing.
“I’m really experimenting with sounds. Like with “Bring Back The Summer” and “Alive” with Krewella we ended up creating a more pop-electronic sounds and incorporated a lot of vocals in the songs. But with songs like “Killin It,” it was a lot of drum and bass and hard core EDM. It’s just kind of whatever comes to me and what I’m feeling at the time, I’ll create it and play around with different sounds.”
What’s next for you? What can fans look forward to from you?
“I have a new single that will be coming out at the end of the month, on Sept. 30. And I’m also working on an EP.”
And to wrap it up, tell us five things we don’t know about you!
“Five things!? Damn, haha! I play acoustic guitar; I love watching ‘Gossip Girl’’ I’m from a small town right outside of Chicago, not really IN Chicago; and … I don’t know what else! Damn, I just found out I’m a very boring person!”
Haha, okay, so I guess that can be your final fact, you’re a very boring person! (I said jokingly.)
“I guess so! I’m a boring person!”

Cash Cash – “Blood, Sweat & 3 Years” Album Review

Electronic music trio Jean Paul Makhlouf, Alex Makhlouf (brothers), and their childhood friend Samuel Frisch, also known professionally as Cash Cash, have won over many music lovers with their hit “Take Me Home” featuring Bebe Rexha. The record generated over 100 million combined streams, 625,000 individual downloads and over 615 million in audience Top 40 radio.

Cash Cash recently released their fourth studio album, “Blood, Sweat & 3 Years” on June 24, representing a variety of different dance music genres with singles like “Aftershock,” featuring Jacquie Lee who provides her sweet, seductive vocals, and “Lightening,” featuring Goo Goo Dolls frontman John Rzeznik. The 16-track album also features their second no. 1 hit single, “Surrender,” which charted in Top 40 pop radio. Other collaborations that are featured on the album include: Nelly, Busta Rhymes, B.o.B, Neon Hitch, Christina Perri, Sofia Reyes, Fitz & The Tantrums,Trinidad James, Night Terrors of 1927, Dev & Chrish, Little Daylight, Anjulie, and Jenna Andrews. The unique album title offers some insight into its collection of songs, which goes back about three years ago, and still retain their signature brand of accessible dance pop.

“Blood, Sweat & 3 Years” kicks off with Cash Cash’s previously released hit single, “How To Love” featuring the powerful vocals from Sofia Reyes. The album continues the easy going summer vibes with “Broken Drum,” which boasts a deep house production with synth solos, smooth vocals by Fitz & The Tantrums and an energetic backdrop, and then blends into the Nelly featured “Millionaire.” Trap elements are then brought into the mix with “Devil,” “The Gun,” and “Sweat”- featuring tongue-in-cheek lyrics and hushed production that brings back a bit of mid-2000s hip- hop. “Escarole” and “Bada Boom” are big room numbers which focus on bass heavy, future house sounds, making for great club tracks. The staccato synth melody in “Hero” brings a rhythmic variety to the album and Rzeznik’s rich vocals in “Lightening” brings in a hook that resonates in your head.

“Arrow In The Dark” featuring Anjulie’s sultry vocals is another strong track with deep house chord progressions that build up to future house drops. Throughout the album, the New York-based producers incorporated a lot of

Instagram May Soon Enable One Hour Videos — Which of Course Will Need Music

Instagram is looking to push the boundaries with longer vertical videos with a 1-hour clip limit, which could potentially pose a threat to YouTube’s dominance in the format.

Going from 10 second clips on Snapchat to 6-second videos on Vine (RIP), the attention span of our generation has become minimal, which is why social media platforms have altered their features to cater to our evolving tech savvy users.
However, now it looks like Instagram is taking a step in the opposite direction of the small-clip trend and is soon embracing a longer video format.
Instagram is considering changing its maximum video length from one minute to one hour. The update would reportedly serve as an extension of Instagram Stories where users can post series of 15-second videos that disappear after 24 hours. The new video feature would be vertically-oriented, and Instagram has already been talking with top publishers and influencers about participating.
While this might positively impact business, this could raise some concerns for copyright issues with music that is featured in the background of the videos, resulting in the app having to adapt to new copyrighting rules.
This could be a great feature to have for influencers and business marketers in the music and entertainment industry trying to promote their brand along with expanded ad and sponsorship opportunities. However, this could also pose as a threat to popular video streaming platform, YouTube, where many popular social influencers live on.
Just like YouTube, Instagram, which is owned by Facebook, also has a large community of influential users with large followings. Many teens prefer Instagram, Snapchat and YouTube over Facebook, meaning Instagram is doing just fine with the teen market, but offering creator-made content that teens are heading to YouTube for, they could do better.
Currently, the only way for those users to post extended videos is via livestream, which doesn’t contain ads, but that might all change very soon.

J.J. Abrams and Sara Bareilles are teaming up for a new Apple series from Jessie Nelson, who’s screenwriting credits include I Am Sam, Stepmom and Corrina, Corrina.

Online streaming platforms such as Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Series have become a more popular way of watching some of the most popular shows.  So it’s not surprise that Apple has also jumped in on the trend — but this time with a new musical twist.

Apple is ordering a comedy-drama series called, Little Voice, from J.J. Abrams, who will serve as executive producer.  It will feature original music by Grammy-award winning songwriter, Sarah Bareilles.  The series is described by Apple as “a love letter to the diverse musicality of New York” and an exploration of “the universal journey of finding your authentic voice in your early 20s.”
Apple ordered a 10-episode first season, however the cast and release date have not been announced.
Nelson, who collaborated with Bareilles on the Broadway musical, Waitress, will be the show runner, writer, and executive producer, and will direct the first episode for the Apple series.

The series is produced by Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Bad Robot Productions is also behind the upcoming Stephen King-inspired drama Castle Rock for Hulu. It's also producing the upcoming HBO dramas Demimonde, which Abrams also created, and Lovecraft Country, which is also executive produced by Jordan Peele.

Abrams also co-wrote, produced and directed Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and will also co-write, produce and direct the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX.

Little Voice joins a robust slate of upcoming Apple series that also includes a comedy featuring Hailee Steinfled as poet Emily Dickenson, a Reese Witherspoon-produced comedy starring Kristen Wiig, a drama project from La La Land director Damien Chzelle, and a psychological thriller from M. Night Shyamalan, to name a few.

Many fans were heartbroken after the third member of Krewella, Kris Trindl, AKA Rain Man, filed a lawsuit against Jahan and Yasmine Yousef. While the Yousef sisters continue working on their second album, Rain Man has been working on some projects himself.
Rain Man is getting a fresh start this 2015 as he recently dropped his debut single, “Visionary” featuring Sirah after performing it for the first time on March 16 at the Borgore house party.
Borgore exclusively admitted to F&S that the single, which is out on Buygore, is “one of the freshest songs I’ve heard in a while.”
“The lyrics for ‘Visionary’ are super dark. Basically I’m talking about the decision every artist needs to make, where you either stay true to what you believe in or you bend your art to fit in a lane,” said Sirah to F&S. “I make my own lane.”
